چکیده

The collisionless time evolution of zonal flows in stellarator systems is investigated. An analytical solution of the kinetic and quasineutrality equations describing the residual zonal flow is derived for arbitrary three-dimensional systems without approximations in the magnetic geometry. The theory allows for an arbitrary number of particle species. It has been found that in stellarators the residual zonal flows are not in general steady but oscillate with a certain frequency. This frequency is determined by the speed of the bounce-averaged radial drifts of the particles trapped in the magnetic field and vanishes in tokamaks, where such net drifts are absent. A reduction of the bounce-averaged radial drifts in configurations optimized with respect to neoclassical transport results in a smaller zonal-flow frequency. ∗ [email protected]

The Influence of Zonal Exb Flows on Edge Turbulence in Tokamaks and Stellarators

We report on uid, gyroouid and gyrokinetic numerical studies of edge turbulence in both tokamak and stellarator geometry, regarding both its physical character and its interaction with the ux surface averaged (\zonal") ExB ows which have proved so important in ion-temperature dominated core turbulence. Zonal ExB ows have a very strong eeect in shutting oo mechanisms which tend to drive radial o...

Zonal flow generation in collisionless trapped electron mode turbulence

In the present work the generation of zonal flows in collisionless trapped electron mode (TEM) turbulence is studied analytically. A reduced model for TEM turbulence is utilized based on an advanced fluid model for reactive drift waves. An analytical expression for the zonal flow growth rate is derived and compared with the linear TEM growth, and its scaling with plasma parameters is examined f...

Experimental evidence of turbulent transport regulation by zonal flows.

The regulation of turbulent transport by zonal flows is studied experimentally on a flux surface of the stellarator experiment TJ-K. Data of 128 Langmuir probes at different toroidal and poloidal positions on a single flux surface enable us to measure simultaneously the zonal flow activity and the turbulent transport in great detail. A reduction of turbulent transport by 30% during the zonal fl...

Small-scale turbulence in a closed-field-line geometry.

Plasma turbulence due to small-scale entropy modes is studied with gyrokinetic simulations in a simple closed-field-line geometry, the Z pinch, in low-beta parameter regimes that are stable to ideal interchange modes. We find an enormous variation in the nonlinear dynamics and particle transport as a function of two main parameters, the density gradient and the plasma collisionality. This varia...

Effects Analysis of Frozen Conditions for Spacecraft Relative Motion Dynamics

The purpose of this rersearch is to analyze the effective application of particular earth orbits in dynamical modeling of relative motion problem between two spacecraft. One challenge in implementing these motions is maintaining the relations as it experiences orbital perturbations (zonal harmonics J2 and J3), most notably due to the Earth’s oblateness. Certain aspects of the orbital geometry c...
